Every single PC or web server is run by an Operating System - the low-level program that communicates with the hardware equipment, including peripheral devices such as a mouse or a printer, and any apps that are currently installed on the system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the OS. On a web server, each app runs within the parameters specified by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etc. This is valid for both standard Internet site scripts and server-side software like a media server. In case a virtual server is set up on a physical one, there can be two different Operating Systems, called guest OS and host OS, so that you can set up a different software environment on the same machine.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

We offer you three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are some of the safest and the most reliable OSs available on the market and we offer all three of them rather than just one because we realize that you may want to set up some software that has specific requirements regarding the Operating System it will run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a huge support community behind it and there are various software applications you could install on the server. Your OS selection will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS if you would like to use one and that is why we offer multiple Control Panels too. In the event you decide that you need some other OS, our tech support can quickly wipe the existing one and set up the one that you want. We also offer an optional service to have the OS on your VPS updated weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to get one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the order page as we want to give you a larger choice regarding the system environment on the machine as different applications can have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian feature different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and benefit from a reliable and risk-free web hosting service. Depending on your decision, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you've selected at first doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you intend to run. We can also update your OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
