Transferring an active domain name entails switching the company that handles the domain name registration service, so after the transfer itself, you’ll have to manage things like renewal fees or DNS updates through the new registrar. The transfer process is standard with most generic and country-code TLD extensions. Some country-code extensions are more specific and entail different steps, but in the general case transferring a domain name entails several basic steps and one of them is unlocking the domain name. The domain lock is a security option, which is being embraced by more and more registry organizations. It is a standard feature supported by all gTLDs. If a domain is locked, it won’t be possible to start a transfer procedure, so no one can even try to steal your domain name. The lock can be annulled only through the account where the domain is registered in the first place and all new domain names that support this feature are locked by default the moment they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Cloud Hosting

With a cloud hosting plan from us, you’ll exert total command over your domain names through our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel. You will be able to do anything you would like, including locking/unlocking any of the domains registered through us, on the condition that the specific Top-Level Domain extension supports this feature. Clicking the padlock symbol that you’ll see next to any domain registered in your Control Panel will show you its current status and clicking on it for the second time will allow you to edit that status. In case you want to transfer a domain to another domain registrar, you can initiate the process instantly. Since unlocking a domain through your Hepsia Control Panel will take effect immediately, no propagation period or any action on our end will be needed. Locking a domain name is just as easy – you will just have to go through the exact same steps.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you would like to transfer a domain name from our company to another registrar company and you have a semi-dedicated server account, you will be able to get the domain name ready with only several mouse clicks. All your domain name registrations will be displayed in a separate section of the Hepsia Control Panel – the exact same tool via which you’ll administer your hosting account. If a given gTLD or ccTLD supports the registrar lock option, you will see a padlock icon. You can find out if the domain name is locked or not by clicking on that icon once and you can change the status by clicking again. That’s all it takes and there will be nothing else that you or we will need to do, so you can proceed with the domain transfer straight away. The change will take effect instantaneously, so you will not need to wait for the status to be changed on WHOIS lookup websites.
